Stove/Range

Clean the oven and stovetop thoroughly

Place all the oven racks on the bottom rung inside oven and tape them down

Tape down the burners and the protective pans under each burner

Tape the electrical cord to the stove

Tape the door(s) shut to the oven

Place large pad or blanket around stove and secure with rope securely

Major Appliances

Dishwasher

Remove all dishes and tape down the racks and cutlery basket

See your manual for removing and draining the water hook-up

Close and lock door.  Tape door shut.  Tape water hose to dishwasher.

Tie a pad or blanket around dishwasher

Washing Machine

Do laundry a few days prior to your moving day

Drain water from machine. If possible, tip washer over to each side allowing excess water to drain

Remove accessories and fittings and place in plastic bag

Stuff towels between the washing machine sides and the tub to prevent tub from shifting

Fill basket with linens, dry clothes, stuffed animals 

Place box baking soda (with special top that doesn't tear off)

Tape electrical cord down and tie a pad or blanket around machine

Dryer     

Disconnect the exhaust hose from the back of the dryer and from the exhaust duct in wall. 

Loosely roll the hose and place it in the dryer 

Tape lint screen, electrical cord and dryer door down securely

Tie a large moving pad or blanket around dryer

Refrigerator

One day before moving, empty out contents and allow to defrost.  If Refrigerator is self defrosting still follow this step allow refrigerator to reach moving temperature

Empty drain pan and disconnect automatic icemaker

Clean out walls, drawers and shelves

Check manual if you have leveling wheels on your unit. The wheels allow for easy moving.  Check to see whether to raise or lower your wheels for the move

Wrap all shelves, especially if glass, and tape together. Tape down all loose parts

Tie large pad or blanket around the unit

Air Conditioner

Shut off unit 24 hours prior to move day allowing coils to dry and cool off

Remove and clean or replace the filter

Tape the cord to side of air conditioning unit (not in back where coils are)

Use original box, otherwise use large appliance box well padded with newsprint.   

    Don't use peanuts for packing which may get inside the unit and possibly cause damage

If you don't have a box, tie two large pads around it to protect coils
